Letras levemente lúgubres envolvidas em melodias serenas é o que torna o Copeland tão singular e ao mesmo tempo tão majestoso. Vinda da Lakeland - Flórida, a banda foi criada em 2000 pelo vocal Aaron e o então baixista James Likeness, em 2002 assinaram com a The Militia Group e um ano depois lançaram seu primeiro album Beneath Medicine Tree. Em julho de 2007, James resolveu deixar o Copeland.
A formação após a saída de James, ficou como: Aaron Marsh, vocalista, guitarrista e pianista, Bryan Laurenson, guitarista e pianista, e Jonathan Bucklew, baterista.
A banda já lançou 4 álbuns desde o início de sua tragetória, o último, com o título de "You Are My Sunshine", chegou às lojas em 2008.
No dia 29 outubro de 2009, Aaron Marsh & cia postaram no myspace o que seria a carta de despedida, dizendo que o Copeland havia chegado ao seu fim.
Em 2014, a banda anuncia sua volta com o álbum Ixora.
